The Gentlemen is a thrilling action comedy series on Netflix created by Guy Ritchie. Starring Theo James as Edward “Eddie” Horniman, the 13th Duke of Halstead, the show follows his unexpected inheritance of a vast estate and the challenges he faces when he discovers it is now part of a criminal empire run by Susie Glass, played by Kaya Scodelario. With an ensemble cast including Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, and more, The Gentlemen offers a mix of danger, humor, and intrigue as Eddie navigates a world of eclectic characters with nefarious agendas. The series, released on March 7, 2024, is a spin-off of Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name, and promises plenty of action and entertainment for viewers.
The series begins with army officer Eddie Horniman returns to England to find that his father, the Duke of Halstead, is on his deathbed. Upon his father’s passing, Eddie unexpectedly inherits the Dukedom and family estate, despite his irresponsible elder brother, Freddy, being next in line. Freddy is revealed to have a massive debt to a dangerous drug dealer, Tommy Dixon. Eddie decides to sell the estate to investor Stanley Johnston to raise the funds to save Freddy.
However, Eddie’s plans change when he meets Susie Glass, who reveals the existence of a large cannabis farm beneath the estate, established through a financial arrangement between their fathers. Susie is able to negotiate with Tommy to lower Freddy’s debt in exchange for cash payment and a humiliating video of Freddy.
With Susie’s help, Eddie is able to secure the necessary funds by selling the estate’s wine collection and resolving Freddy’s bet with Sticky Pete, a deceitful bookmaker. When Tommy arrives to collect the money and film the video, Freddy’s emotions get the best of him and he ends up shooting Tommy dead in a cocaine-fuelled rage.
